"Solar generator" is a marketing term for a portable power station paired with (or capable of pairing with) solar panels — it's not a fundamentally different machine from the power stations covered elsewhere on this site, just framed around its recharge method. The real comparison worth making is battery-based backup (solar or wall-charged) versus a traditional gas generator.

Where gas still wins
For large, sustained loads — central AC, a well pump running for hours, power tools — a gas generator delivers more watts per dollar and isn't limited by battery capacity the way a power station is. If a multi-day outage means running heavy equipment continuously, fuel (which you can restock) beats a battery (which you can only recharge as fast as your panels or the grid allow).
Where solar-based backup wins
For essential indoor loads — fridge, medical equipment, lights, Wi-Fi — a power station's silence and zero exhaust mean it can sit in a hallway closet with no carbon monoxide risk, no trip outside in a storm to refuel, and no engine maintenance between uses. Pairing it with portable solar extends a multi-day outage without needing stored fuel at all, at the cost of a much slower recharge than a gas tank refill.
