What we do

WattReady builds free, independent calculators and guides for home backup power — portable power stations, whole-house and portable generators, and the emergency preparedness that goes with them. Our first tool, the wattage calculator, answers the question most people get wrong before buying: "what size do I actually need?"

Who this is for

Homeowners in areas prone to storms, wildfires or grid strain; renters and apartment dwellers who need a quiet, indoor-safe solution; van lifers, campers and overlanders; and anyone who wants a straight, numbers-first answer instead of a 40-minute buying-guide video.

How we make money

WattReady is supported by display advertising and, over time, affiliate partnerships with retailers and brands — see our full affiliate disclosure. We don't sell power stations or generators ourselves, and commission potential never changes what the calculator tells you.

What we do not do

We do not run a lab, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise. WattReady is not a teardown site and we do not publish bench measurements we have not taken. What we do is arithmetic, specification research and cross-checking — turning manufacturer data, electrical code requirements and appliance draw figures into a number you can act on. Where a question needs a licensed electrician rather than a website, our answer says that instead of guessing.

How the site is put together

Every article here is written for this site; nothing is syndicated, spun or reposted from elsewhere. Sizing guidance comes from one shared data set, so correcting a wattage figure changes it everywhere that figure appears rather than on a single page. Product listings carry the price and specification as at the date we last checked them, because both move. Recommendations are not ordered by commission — our affiliate disclosure sets out exactly how the money works.
